Philippine-listed DigiPlus Interactive Corp announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, DigiPlus Brazil Interactive Ltda, has been granted “definitive authority” by the Brazilian government to operate sports betting and online gaming in the country.
The announcement, made in a Thursday filing, highlights DigiPlus Interactive’s expansion into Brazil’s fast-growing iGaming market. The company, known for its investments in gaming and leisure services, including bingo operations and a digital sportsbook platform, confirmed that its Brazilian unit successfully secured the coveted licence from the country’s Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Awards and Bets.
In November, DigiPlus stated that its Brazilian subsidiary had cleared the qualification stage for obtaining a federal licence to offer iGaming services. According to the latest update, only 10 percent of applicants received definitive licences, with DigiPlus among the select group of approved operators. The company did not disclose the total number of applicants.
To support its Brazilian venture, DigiPlus allocated PHP660 million (approximately USD11.2 million) in initial funding. The amount covers licensing fees, minimum capital requirements, and operational reserves as part of the certification process.
On Tuesday, Brazilian authorities released a list of 14 companies granted definitive licences to begin online gaming operations starting January 1. An additional 52 companies received preliminary approval and have 30 days to complete the required documentation for full certification.
