Newport World Resorts Names Industry Veteran John Lucas as New Chief Hospitality Officer

Newport World Resorts in Manila has appointed John Lucas as Chief Hospitality Officer, with his tenure set to begin in January 2025. Lucas brings over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including recent roles as General Manager at Hilton Manila and prior senior positions within the Hilton Group across Australia and Papua New Guinea.

In an official statement, Newport World Resorts expressed confidence in Lucas’ capabilities: “John’s insights will be invaluable as we continue to elevate Newport World Resorts to new heights.”

Backed by Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., a subsidiary of Alliance Global Group Inc., Newport World Resorts encompasses five international hotel brands—Marriott Manila Hotel, Sheraton Manila Hotel, Hilton Manila, Hotel Okura Manila, and Holiday Inn Express Manila—with a combined offering of 2,742 guest rooms. Recently, the company reported record occupancy and average daily rates across its hotels, bolstered by non-gaming revenue despite a decline in gross gaming earnings primarily impacted by shifts in VIP volume.

Lucas’ appointment aligns with Newport’s ongoing leadership restructuring, which earlier this year saw Laurence Hawke named Chief Financial Officer, Nilo Rodriguez as President and CEO, and Lance Gautreaux as Chief Operating Officer, following a year-long transition plan.
