PAGCOR builds school building in Tarlac

In the municipality of PURA, Tarlac, school children now have access to expanded learning facilities following the inauguration on December 20 of a modern two-story, six-classroom building funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

The new educational structure, constructed at a cost of almost Php18 million, was unveiled at Nilasin 1st Elementary School, a public institution in Pura that had been grappling with a shortage of classrooms since a powerful earthquake more than three decades ago damaged its existing buildings.

Pura town faced significant devastation from the 1990 earthquake, causing damage to crucial infrastructure, including government buildings, schools, and residences. Despite numerous attempts to restore and repair the damaged structures, some buildings were deemed unsafe and condemned, exacerbating the challenges faced by the local community.

In response to the pressing need, Mayor Freddie Domingo sought assistance from PAGCOR, which responded affirmatively by allocating Php17.87 million for the construction of an earthquake-resistant building at Nilasin 1st Elementary School.

Mayor Domingo expressed gratitude, stating, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to PAGCOR for their invaluable support in funding the construction of a new classroom facility in Pura. This generous contribution not only enhances our educational infrastructure but also empowers the future of our students. PAGCOR’s commitment to education is truly making a lasting impact on our community. Thank you for investing in the growth and development of Pura.”

Education is the cornerstone of progress, and through such initiatives, we are not just constructing buildings but providing bridges to a brighter, more empowered future for the community

Eric Balcos, PAGCOR Assistant VP for Community Relations and Services

The inauguration, attended by PAGCOR officials led by Assistant VP for Community Relations and Services Eric Balcos, featured Vice Mayor Atty. John Paul M. Balmores representing Mayor Domingo. Balcos emphasized PAGCOR’s dedication to education-related projects, highlighting their crucial role in community development and empowering the aspirations of the next generation.

By unveiling a new school building in Pura, PAGCOR takes pride in fostering positive change and providing a foundation for the dreams of countless students. It is very good to see that revenues generated by PAGCOR from both land based casinos and online gaming sites are being used to help develop the education sector and communities in need.
