PAGCOR online casino to launch later in 2024

The head of the Philippine gaming regulator, Alejandro Tengco, has revealed that the authorities are considering launching their own online casino brand, casinofilipino.com, in the latter half of this year.

The trend is… a shift from traditional land-based casinos to online gaming

Tengco emphasized the global shift from traditional land-based casinos to online gaming, stating that through an internet platform, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) could establish a worldwide presence in gaming operations, beyond just the Philippine market.

Speaking at the SiGMA Asia trade show last July, Tengco initially mentioned the plan for a national online gaming brand. The proposed name aligns with the publicly-owned Casino Filipino chain of land-based casinos that Pagcor intends to sell to private investors. Pagcor currently oversees the Casino Filipino chain, licenses private-sector land-based casinos, Philippine Inshore Gaming Operators (PIGOs) for online domestic customers, Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) for online overseas clients, and various other online non-casino gaming within the country.

In a recent interview extract, Tengco predicted that electronically-delivered gaming would contribute PHP61.75 billion (US$1.10 billion) to the country’s gaming revenues in 2024. Expressing excitement about the growth of eGames in the Philippines, he emphasized Pagcor’s commitment to betting on this trend. In November, Tengco mentioned that the agency was in the process of procuring a system for operating casinofilipino.com, aiming to secure a significant share of the lucrative and profitable online market.

PAGCOR is in a unique position as it is both a Regulator and also an Operator for the gaming industry. Although, more competition is always better for players and this being a government brand will also help instill trust and confidence. The Casino Filipino casinos are popular among locals and let us see how this brand recognition transfer over to its online counterpart.
