A groundbreaking ceremony took place last Thursday for a new casino resort valued at approximately PHP16.6 billion at Subic Bay.
Named the Subic Sun Convention Resort and Casino, the establishment will be situated within the Subic Special Economic and Freeport Zone, commonly known as Subic Bay Freeport. According to reports, the first phase of the project is slated to open in late 2025.
Located in Central Luzon, approximately 170 kilometers northwest of Manila, the property is expected to feature hotel accommodations from the Accor Group’s Ibis Styles and Mercure Hotels brands, as stated by Eduardo Jose Aliño, Chairperson, and Administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
Ibis Styles Subic is set to offer 175 rooms, along with amenities such as a swimming pool, meeting facilities, and a gym, with a planned opening in 2026, marking the first internationally-branded hotel in Subic, according to Pablo Edgardo Puyat, Chair and President of Sun Convention Resort and Casino Inc.
Similarly, Mercure Subic will offer 250 rooms and is also scheduled to launch in 2026, as reported by one of the news sources. However, details regarding the casino’s opening date and the number of tables and electronic games it will feature were not provided in the reports.
Having more hotel casino just shows the growth of the gaming industry in the Philippines. It also shows investor confidence considering this is an international brand of hotel. Having it inside a Freeport could help enjoy certain economic benefits and services as well.
