Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI), the parent company of Newport World Resorts in Manila, confirmed plans to invest PHP10 billion in 2024. This investment will fund the ongoing expansion of Newport World Resorts and accelerate commercial development for a new casino hotel project in Westside City.

AGI is building the Westside City integrated resort in collaboration with Suntrust Resort Holdings Inc. Suntrust is a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed casino investment firm LET Group Holdings Ltd. The venue, therefore, is on track to open by the first quarter of 2025.

In a press release issued Thursday, Alliance Global announced that Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. will handle the PHP10 billion expansion. Travellers International owns and operates Newport World Resorts and will lead both the construction and renovation works.

As part of its plans, Travellers has already started refurbishing the Newport Mansion. The upgraded property will feature all-suite rooms, luxurious garden villas, and bay-facing suites designed to attract high-end guests.

Meanwhile, the company will also channel part of the capital into Westside City. The area will include premium commercial zones, a Grand Opera House, modern theatres, and multiple high-end cinemas. These additions aim to strengthen AGI’s entertainment footprint.

Originally opened in 2009 as Resorts World Manila, Newport World Resorts began as a joint venture between Alliance Global and Genting Hong Kong Ltd. Genting, a well-known cruise casino operator and Genting Group subsidiary, partnered in building the complex.

However, Genting Hong Kong entered liquidation in January 2022. Following that development, AGI rebranded the property as Newport World Resorts by July 2022. By May 2023, AGI acquired Genting’s full stake, completing its full control of the resort.

Last month, Alliance Global implemented a leadership transition at Newport World Resorts. This change marked the final phase of a one-year plan after the full acquisition. Consequently, several executives previously linked to Genting Hong Kong stepped down from their posts.

In April, AGI reported that Travellers International posted PHP34.2 billion in gross gaming revenue for 2023. That figure represented a 7 percent year-on-year increase. The performance underscored the resort’s growing contribution to the group’s earnings.

Currently, Newport World Resorts hosts five global hotel brands. These include Marriott Manila Hotel, Sheraton Manila Hotel, Hilton Manila, Hotel Okura Manila, and Holiday Inn Express Manila. The property remains a top choice for luxury stays and integrated resort entertainment.

AGI’s PHP10 billion allocation forms part of its broader PHP75 billion capital expenditure for 2024. This total reflects a 19 percent increase over the PHP63 billion it spent in 2023. Chairman Andrew Tan reaffirmed the company’s commitment to driving long-term growth, particularly in tourism and gaming.

With Westside City positioned as the next major casino resort in Entertainment City, AGI’s expansion plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Philippine gaming. Since Newport World Resorts already offers online gaming for its members, Westside City may eventually introduce similar digital offerings.

Ultimately, Alliance Global aims to reinforce its leadership in hospitality, while pushing the boundaries of gaming innovation across the country.
