DigiPlus Interactive Corp, a Philippine holding company with investments in digital bingo and sportsbook platforms, confirmed that it will continue operations. The company clarified that the recently declared ban on offshore online gaming operators will not affect its business.
On Monday, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the government’s plan to ban all previously known Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). He made the announcement during his State of the Nation Address.
The President directed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to wind down and fully terminate the operations of POGOs—now referred to as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs)—by the end of 2024.
Following the announcement, PAGCOR released a statement on Tuesday. The regulator said the ban would have only a minimal impact on the country’s gaming industry. The reason, they explained, is that the offshore gaming segment contributes less than 5 percent of total gross gaming revenue.
In response, DigiPlus quickly reassured its stakeholders through an official statement. The company emphasized that its operations remain unaffected by the presidential order.
“DigiPlus is here to stay,” the company stated. “We reassure our stakeholders that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to ban all POGOs does not impact our business.”
DigiPlus President Andy Tsui reinforced the company’s legal standing. “DigiPlus is not a POGO or an Internet Gaming Licensee (IGL) as defined under Philippine laws,” he said in the press release.
The company further explained that it serves customers based exclusively in the Philippines. It also operates under a mandate to maintain physical branches across the country.
DigiPlus pointed out that, as a local gaming operator, it needed to establish physical gaming sites nationwide before launching any of its digital platforms. This requirement, they noted, sets them apart from offshore operations.
Currently, DigiPlus runs several digital entertainment platforms. These include BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, Perya Game, and BingoPlus Poker.
In addition, the company confirmed it holds multiple gaming licenses. These licenses allow it to offer traditional bingo, electronic bingo games, electronic gaming services, sports betting, specialty games, and poker.
Mr. Tsui added, “Fans of DigiPlus’ products will be glad to know that our top-tier platforms will continue to operate without disruption. The recent presidential directive has no effect on our services.”
Earlier this year, DigiPlus reported strong financial results. In the first quarter, the company posted PHP13.63 billion (US$233.2 million) in consolidated revenue. This marked a 226.3 percent increase from the same period last year.
The firm attributed the growth to stronger revenues from its bingo and electronic games segments. These gains came from retail, casino, and property-based operations, according to its May statement.
Despite regulatory shifts, DigiPlus remains confident in its position. The company continues to assure customers and investors that it operates under full compliance with Philippine laws.
