PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco

PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco and the entire board of directors submitted their courtesy resignations directly to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This move aligns fully with the president’s directive, which requires all presidential appointees in government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) to resign by July 19.

By taking swift action, PAGCOR’s leadership demonstrated full support for the administration’s efforts to reassess and restructure key government agencies. In doing so, they provided President Marcos Jr. with the flexibility to either reappoint current officials or introduce new leadership. The president can now make decisions based on merit, performance, and alignment with his governance goals.

Since 2022, Chairman Tengco has actively led PAGCOR through a series of reforms. He pushed for corporatization and promoted the separation of PAGCOR’s regulatory and operational functions. Despite these efforts, the president’s directive now places the future of Tengco’s role—and that of the board—squarely in the hands of the administration.

Even though the board submitted their resignations, the move does not take immediate effect. The president must act on each resignation for it to become official. Until then, the current leadership continues to fulfill its duties and oversee daily operations. This ongoing presence ensures continuity and allows for a smooth transition, should leadership changes occur.

Meanwhile, other GOCCs have also started submitting resignations in response to the president’s call. As a result, movement is underway across several agencies. President Marcos Jr. aims to reinforce accountability, improve efficiency, and streamline public service delivery through this leadership overhaul.

For PAGCOR, this potential shift in leadership could influence ongoing projects, regulatory strategies, and investor confidence. Therefore, stakeholders across the gaming industry are watching closely. The president’s upcoming appointments—or reappointments—will likely shape the direction of the Philippine gaming sector under his administration.
