PAGCOR’s gaming recovery continues to gain momentum as Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco confirms the industry’s steady rebound. He attributes the resurgence to growing demand for leisure, travel, and entertainment. These key drivers will continue fueling growth in the coming years.
At the RGB Connect Gala Night held at Hilton Clark Sun Valley Resort in Pampanga, Tengco highlighted how lifted travel and mobility restrictions have reignited public interest. He noted renewed enthusiasm for dining, shopping, and outdoor activities—experiences that the pandemic had previously limited.
“As we mark one year into President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term, our gross gaming revenues (GGR) have nearly returned to 2019 levels,” Tengco stated. “That was the year PAGCOR recorded its highest GGR to date.”
He emphasized PAGCOR’s confidence that the 2023 GGR will match or even exceed the 2019 benchmark. “That’s a remarkable achievement,” he added, “especially since many of our traditional high rollers and junkets have yet to return. Fortunately, domestic players and new tourists have stepped in to bridge the gap.”
Tengco views the continued expansion of integrated resorts—especially in Clark—as a key growth engine for the Philippine gaming sector.
“Clark is set to become a major gaming and tourism hub before the decade ends,” he said. “Its strong infrastructure, attractive tourist destinations, and expanding commercial districts all point to massive potential.”
To further accelerate growth, PAGCOR is rolling out a comprehensive modernization program. This initiative aims to boost revenue and enhance the overall player experience.
“We will receive 3,000 brand-new slot machines by January next year,” Tengco revealed. “We’ve already finalized a revenue-sharing deal with a supplier. We expect these machines to generate at least ₱18 billion in the next five years.”
PAGCOR is also upgrading its table games. It plans to replace outdated setups with more sophisticated ones to attract more players and increase engagement.
As part of its digital transformation, PAGCOR is launching its own online platform, casinofilipino.com. Tengco said this move will strengthen the agency’s digital reach. It will also deliver a modern, accessible gaming experience for both local and global audiences.
