The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the National Privacy Commission (NPC) have agreed to strengthen data privacy measures and regulatory compliance within the country’s gaming sector.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at PAGCOR’s headquarters in Pasay City, marking a joint effort to enhance data protection in an industry that manages significant amounts of sensitive information.
PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco emphasized that the agreement reflects the agency’s dedication to safeguarding the personal data of employees, licensees, and gaming patrons. He noted that the MOU aligns PAGCOR’s policies with evolving privacy standards while maintaining transparency and compliance across operations.
Tengco also shared that the collaboration includes plans to establish a national database of government officials and employees prohibited from gambling, as part of ongoing efforts to promote responsible gaming.
NPC Chairman and Privacy Commissioner John Henry Naga commended PAGCOR’s initiative, underscoring the importance of inter-agency cooperation in ensuring data security across high-risk sectors. He added that protecting personal information is not only a matter of compliance but a standard of excellence in the gaming industry.
The initiative was developed following a privacy training workshop for state-owned corporations, where PAGCOR’s data privacy officer, Maria Concepcion Gloria-Rubio, presented a framework to enhance compliance and governance.
Under the MOU, PAGCOR and the NPC will roll out joint programs focused on privacy awareness, capacity building, and policy development—aimed at strengthening public trust and accountability in the Philippine gaming industry.
