PAGCOR builds school building in Tarlac

In the municipality of Pura, Tarlac, school children now enjoy expanded learning facilities after officials inaugurated a modern two-story, six-classroom building on December 20. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) funded the nearly ₱18-million project.

Nilasin 1st Elementary School, a public institution in Pura, received the new building to address its long-standing classroom shortage. A powerful earthquake more than 30 years ago severely damaged the school’s existing structures, leaving the community struggling with limited space ever since.

The 1990 earthquake devastated Pura, damaging vital infrastructure such as schools, homes, and government buildings. Although the town made several attempts to restore its facilities, authorities ultimately condemned many of them for safety concerns, further burdening the community.

To help solve the issue, Mayor Freddie Domingo reached out to PAGCOR for assistance. In response, PAGCOR allocated ₱17.87 million to build an earthquake-resistant structure at Nilasin 1st Elementary School.

Mayor Domingo expressed his appreciation during the ceremony. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to PAGCOR for funding the construction of a new classroom facility in Pura. This generous contribution not only strengthens our educational infrastructure but also secures a brighter future for our students. PAGCOR’s commitment to education truly creates lasting impact.”

PAGCOR Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and Services Eric Balcos led the PAGCOR delegation at the event, while Vice Mayor Atty. John Paul M. Balmores represented Mayor Domingo. Balcos emphasized PAGCOR’s dedication to educational initiatives and its mission to uplift communities by investing in future generations.

“Education is the cornerstone of progress,” said Balcos. “Through projects like this, we don’t just build classrooms—we build opportunities and hope for the next generation.”

By delivering a new school building in Pura, PAGCOR reinforced its commitment to creating positive change. The agency continues to take pride in using revenues from both land-based casinos and online gaming to support public education and community development throughout the Philippines.
