The Philippines is set to launch electronic visas for Chinese nationals at its embassy in Beijing starting this November.

Tourism Secretary Christina Franco hailed the move as a “milestone policy,” emphasizing that it demonstrates the country’s commitment to improving accessibility for travelers. She added that the initiative helps rebuild confidence among both tourists and industry stakeholders who rely on proactive government measures.

The e-Visa system was suspended in 2023, which led to missed tourism targets. Franco described its reinstatement as “both necessary and overdue,” highlighting that it addresses ongoing market demand and long-standing industry feedback while enhancing regional competitiveness.

While the rollout is expected to begin next month, Franco noted that an immediate spike in arrivals is unlikely due to timing and external conditions.

According to the Department of Tourism, the Philippines recorded over 203,900 Chinese visitors in the first nine months of this year, compared to 1.7 million in 2019—when China was the country’s second-largest tourism market after South Korea.
