Pacific Online Systems Corporation, the firm powering the Philippine lottery software, grew its income by nearly 80% during the first three quarters of 2023. The company achieved two major milestones, including the launch of an online platform designed to attract more Filipino bettors.

Willy Ocier’s Pacific Online launched the E-Lotto system for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on December 15. This new platform enables users to join lottery games via mobile wallet GCash and other potential gateways. It also allows players to receive winnings electronically.

In 2024, Pacific Online plans to release the E-Lotto app on Google Play and iOS. Just one day after the launch, PCSO raised the stakes by offering over P1 billion in combined prizes for the Grand Lotto 6/55 and Ultra Lotto 6/58 draws.

Before this launch, Pacific Online and its partner, International Lottery and Totalizator Systems, Inc., revamped and centralized the national lottery operations. They replaced a decade-old system and installed about 6,500 terminals across the country to improve service.

These strategic moves strengthened Pacific Online’s financial performance. In the first three quarters of 2023, the company earned P502.4 million in revenue—a 40% increase. Its net income jumped by 79% to P100.8 million.

Pacific Online credited its growth to an open economy in 2023, bigger jackpot prizes, and stronger terminal sales.

After posting pandemic-related losses, Pacific Online returned to profitability in 2022. It reported a P191-million profit that year, with revenue climbing 22% to P519 million. Its stock price also surged 216% in a year, reaching P4.95 per share.

The Philippines has long lagged behind in lottery technology, but Pacific Online’s innovations signal progress. As mobile platforms make betting more accessible, the gaming industry stands to gain more players and game variety.
